The EMD E5 was built as a 2000 horsepower (despite the “E” in the name of the locomotive series originally referring to an “Eighteen hundred” horsepower engine specification) locomotive for passenger service specifically for the Chicago Burlington & Quincy. The major difference between the E5 and its other early E-unit brothers was its stainless steel finish and distinctive fluting, specifically chosen to match the CB&Q’s corrugated passenger trains such as the California Zephyr, Nebraska Zephyr and Silver Streak Zephyr.

The Electro-Motive Division (EMD) of General Motors was the last major builder to enter the road switcher market, introducing the GP7 (GP for General Purpose) in 1949. In 1954, the more powerful GP9 was unveiled with a 1750 horsepower prime-mover. This became the most successful of the early geeps, with sales of more than 3,800 locos in the U.S. and Canada. As the GP9s were bumped from major freight and passenger trains by newer locos, they began new careers as switchers. Many roads rebuilt them with a low nose to improve forward visibility and they continue to serve in switching, wayfreight and transfer assignments today. This HO Scale model will be a real workhorse on your model railroad, with great features like a heavy diecast metal frame, powerful can motor with flywheel, eight-wheel electrical pick-up and drive, and a working headlight. You will see it pulling many types of passenger cars all over the United States. EMD GP40 Diesel Locomotive – UNION PACIFIC #508 (without dynamic brakes) – N Scale. The EMD GP40 diesel locomotive was built by General Motors Electro-Motive Division between November 1965 and December 1971. Powered by an EMD 645E3 16-cylinder engine which generated 3000 horsepower the GP40 has proven itself as a standard freight engine on railroads throughout North America. General Motors GP 30 Scale Diesel Locomotive – C&O #3003 – O Scale. Built between 1961 and 1963, the GP30 design reflected the latest engineering of the early 1960s. It owes its distinctive “hump,” which spans the entire top of the locomotive, to General Motors’ automotive stylists. Among its design innovations, the GP30 could be equipped with dynamic braking and an airtight hood to protect the air intake of its electrical cooling system. Features include: directional LED lighting, separately applied grabirons, drop-down steps and windshield wipers, wire-formed handrails, 6-amp reverse board with directional lock-out, prototypically correct details for dynamic and non-dynamic brake models, dual motors with flywheel coasting action, traction tires, durable ABS plastic shell, True Blast Plus 16-bit polyphonic sound including prime mover, horn and bell.
