About this item: The legendary Nana Daka, or “King’s treasure box” in Akan, inspire the design of this jewelry box. Ahmed Baba Osmanu crafts it by hand with sese wood and embossed aluminum motifs featuring the image of the Ashanti throne on the lid and on sides. On the front is Hye Wonhye, the Adinkra symbol for endurance. Featuring brass hinges, the box closes with an aluminum latch.

About our Artist: ‘After completing my elementary education, I became a self-taught woodcarver,’ says Ghana’s Ahmed Baba Osmanu. ‘My creations are basically both decorative and utilitarian. My materials come from our environment, and I use various types of wood and plate to form different designs. I feel proud to have shown my art in Germany, the US, South Africa and Namibia.’
